RIGHTS AND FREEDOM FOR GABRIELE DEL GRANDE
Appeal to the Italian Parliament and Government
Dear President of the Senate of the Republic, Hon. Pietro Grasso

We have known Gabriele Del Grande for many years; we have shared travels, inquiries and stories with him, having the honour and joy of appreciating the proficiency and humanity that have always nourished his researches. His contribution to our country’s democracy has proven to be of considerable worth so far, both thanks to his ability to approach, meet and understand different and complex situations and to the clarity of thought with which he is able to connect political commitments with the daily injustices suffered by women and men belonging to the various cultures that crowd today’s Italy and the Mediterranean countries. Reading and watching the stories told by Gabriele help Italy, and not just it, be a more civilized country. His new project on the Syrian conflict is a further significant step ahead on this long research and cultural path.
It is necessary that the highest authorities of the country take urgently action towards Turkish authorities in order to guarantee the protection of the rights of one of their own citizens as well as a valuable professional of considerable civil worth. We ask for Gabriele’s freedom and for the restoration of his rights as a citizen and as a journalist.
