Limbo
Synopsis
Imagine one of your loved ones suddenly being taken away by the police, imprisoned, and expelled from Italy.
Imagine this happening to your father, your partner, your mother, a child, or a brother—not because they committed a crime or an act of violence, but simply because they lacked valid documentation.
It is a danger as distressing as it is real for the families of many immigrants who are integrated into our society yet find themselves at odds with the bureaucracy. This is the reality faced by Alejandro, Bouchaib, Karim, and Peter—detained in CIEs (Identification and Expulsion Centers) in Turin, Trapani, and Rome, often far from home—and by their families, who wait in limbo to learn whether their loved ones will return or be sent away from Italy.
*Limbo* tells their stories of waiting, anger, and fear, and of lives and affections caught between different families and cultures.
These are stories in which children seem powerless to do anything but endure the suffering and absence caused by their fathers’ fates, and women must bear the weight of an unjust and heartless law.
