The First School – Selected Projects
he first school is a civic engagement project whose aim is to enhance the importance of the Italian primary public school in a period of crisis and inequality.
Primary schools are the first real extra-family experience for a child and they represent the core of the Italian education system.
Up to a decade ago, it was considered the peak of the Italian school. Then public policies began to cut funds and clumsily reform the system, reducing educational quality and increasing social differences.
We do not have the resources to radically change the course of national events, but we can start togheter a purposeful path, in which the world of cinema and art can play an important role in the education universe.
Credits
The project aims to gather resources and energy to engage schools, pursuing two main objectives:
- Contribute to the public education system debate on the crisis concerning primary schools
- Fund artistic projects in primary schools in the suburbs with a special fundraising
The mechanism is very simple. For about five months (from September 2013 to January 2014) we will collect donations through this website and through various regional initiatives related to the distribution of the film “The First Snow”.
The funds thus collected will then be assigned to individual schools of remote areas who will present projects for improvement of the educational and pedagogical path (theater workshops, music or cinema, meetings, visits, intercultural mediation and other services). Projects will be judged and selected in spring 2014 by a commission of experts and, once initiated (generally from September 2014 onwards), the projects will be documented and reported through this site.
The focus will be in particular to all of those outlying districts of large cities and in those isolated locations where the cuts to education have shown their faces harder.
Given that these realities are often characterized by highly multicultural contexts, the project will seek to stimulate the participation of reality that demonstrate a certain sensitivity to the integration and appreciation of differences.
